Alaska Airlines' new $5 million reservations center in Phoenix opened Thursday.

The center specializes in serving elite-level and Spanish-speaking travelers.

Thirty of the 270 employees at the 30,000-square-foot facility are bilingual, and more are being sought. The airline will hold a job fair Sept. 6.

Bilingual agents earn more than their English-only colleagues.

The airline averages six daily flights between Phoenix and Seattle, and three between Phoenix and Portland.

The new office is at 14601 S. 50th St. The airline previously had a center in Tempe.
